Orthopaedics

Orthopaedics at Skåne University Hospital is one of Sweden’s largest orthopaedic centres, employing around 500 staff. Each year, we handle approximately 85,000 clinic visits and care for around 6,700 inpatients.

Our international reputation is well established, as demonstrated by our membership in the International Society of Orthopaedic Centers (ISOC). ISOC is an exclusive association of the 18 most prestigious orthopaedic institutions worldwide, and we are the only Scandinavian unit to be included.

In Malmö, we operate the Centre for Osteoporosis and Fracture Prevention, where we diagnose and treat osteoporosis (brittle bones). In addition to providing medical treatment, the centre is actively involved in clinical drug trials.

Research

Our research is recognised as outstanding in several key areas. An independent review of research at Lund University rated orthopaedics as outstanding/excellent.

We are an active partner in the Health Evidence Network (HEN), an initiative led by the World Health Organization (WHO), which works to provide policymakers with reliable, well-conducted research findings.
