Orthopaedics

Orthopaedics at Skåne University Hospital employs around 500 staff and is one of Sweden’s biggest orthopaedic facilities. We receive around 85,000 visits to our clinics and have around 6 700 inpatients every year.

We have a significant international reputation, as evidenced by our membership of the International Society of Orthopaedic Centers (ISOC). ISOC is an association of the 18 most prestigious orthopaedic units in the world, and we are the only Scandinavian unit to be included.

In Malmö, we run the Centre for Osteoporosis and Fracture Prevention where we diagnose and treat osteoporosis (brittle bones). The Centre for Osteoporosis and Fracture Prevention is involved in clinical drug trials, as well as providing medical treatment.

Research

Our research is outstanding in a number of areas. An independent review of research at Lund University rated orthopaedics as outstanding/excellent.

We are an active partner in the Health Evidence Network (HEN) run by the World Health Organization (WHO), which aims to disseminate information to policymakers in respect of studies conducted well.
