Intensive and perioperative care

We provide surgical care, life-saving treatment, and pain relief whenever needed. Intensive and perioperative care ensures that patients receive effective pain relief, anaesthesia, surgical care, postoperative care, and intensive care.

In Lund, we provide anaesthesia and surgical care, general surgery, orthopaedics, and otorhinolaryngology. We also deliver anaesthesia services for neurosurgery, ophthalmology, gynaecology, oral surgery, and oncology.

In Malmö, we deliver anaesthesia and surgical care, general surgery, vascular surgery, urology, orthopaedics, otorhinolaryngology, plastic surgery, ophthalmology, hand surgery, and gynaecology.

We are responsible for acute and highly specialised intensive care in both Malmö and Lund.

Intensive and perioperative care also oversees Skåne University Hospital’s sterile technology activities and the hospital’s pain unit, which manages acute, postoperative, and cancer-related pain. In addition, we operate one of Sweden’s largest and leading assessment clinics for malignant hyperthermia.

Intensive and perioperative care actively contributes to two national quality registers to evaluate and improve Swedish healthcare. Our intensive care departments report to the Swedish Intensive Care Register (SIR). Quality and activity data from Skåne University Hospital and Intensive and perioperative care’s surgical activities are submitted to the Swedish Perioperative Register (SPOR). Information on national quality registers can be accessed at www.kvalitetsregister.se, including links to SIR and SPOR.
