Plastic surgery

Our department of plastic surgery at Skåne University Hospital performs reconstructive surgery for tumour diseases, congenital malformations, and following various injuries.

Ear reconstruction

The Scandinavian Ear Reconstruction Centre in Skåne, one of the top ear reconstruction centres in Europe, handles congenital ear defects and ear deformities from trauma or tumour surgery. Annually, 350 ear reconstructions are performed.

The centre is the national clinic for reconstructive surgery of the outer ear in Sweden. As such, high competence specialist treatment is performed with full certification of The National Board of Health and Welfare. Key partnerships with leading surgeons in the field have contributed to the prime position that the centre holds today.

Reconstruction of the external ear is possible by using autologous rib cartilage in three surgical steps, with an interval of at least three months between the operations. For the difficult secondary cases of ear reconstruction the centre presents a novel technique using prelaminated auricular free-flaps either from the radial forearm or the antero-lateral thigh.

Lymphoedema

The Lymphoedema Centre offers a unique method to completely remove chronic lymphoedema, using a special liposuction technique developed in the department more than 20 years ago. Lymphoedema, congenital and secondary to cancer treatment, are cared for in patients from all over the world.

Arm and leg lymphoedemas up to 4.4 litres and 10 litres, respectively, have successfully been treated. A complete reduction has been achieved with a follow-up more than 20 years at the most and without recurrence.

The Lymphoedema Centre is the national clinic for reconstructive surgery of lymphoedema in Sweden. As such, high competence specialist treatment is performed with full certification of The National Board of Health and Welfare.
